You make us feel like we are worth it regardless of our charges or past mistakes.
And that we deserve a life with happiness and love."
(From ‘Celebrating Our Volunteers - Why You Are an Essential Piece' by inmate D.M.)
Dear Friends:
Greetings on this lovely November day. With most of the leaves now on the ground, and Halloween behind us, we at Freeing the Human Spirit turn our efforts to preparing the Christmas Newsletter we will send to our incarcerated friends 'inside'. This special edition always runs up our bill at the printers, and so it is the time of year to ask for your financial support.
Our little Charity depends mostly on individual donations. Unfortunately we have found that the corporate world is not necessarily moved by the plight of isolated inmates in our prison system. We appeal especially to all who believe that yoga and meditation are ideal instruments in the rehabilitation of our incarcerated brothers and sisters. FTHS cannot do this alone.
Please donate today and be our Christmas Companions
As we join our teachers who bring hope and healing into prisons and jails.
Recently Cheryl and I had the pleasure of joining our volunteer teachers, inmates and staff at a testimonial dinner in a nearby correctional institute, as they "Celebrated their Volunteers". The inmates described themselves as pieces of a puzzle, with rough edges, and that help came in the already shaped pieces called 'volunteers'. Gradually, they saw their practice of yoga and meditation as smoothing their 'unshaped' pieces to fit in with the already shaped volunteers, which impacted their lives very positively.
The prison dining room was beautifully decorated, with lavender cloths on each of the 50 tables, on which were an assortment of plates and glasses and shining silverware, with a potted plant centering each table. Everything had been arranged by the inmates themselves, including the delicious food prepared and served most generously and politely, and a trio of musicians who provided background music for the evening. We express our gratitude for the recognition we both received, for our 5 years of service.
Be ‘an essential piece of the puzzle' by donating today.
At www.freeingpspirit.com or by cheque.
We have experienced pleasant weather all through the fall. Let us be grateful for our many other blessings.
Best, From Sister Elaine and Cheryl
